Travel to Punta Cana is a sheer delight during any part of the year.
I also prefer spending my holidays in Punta Cana as it is my preferred Caribbean destination. Last year, I took JetBlue Airways flights to Punta Cana from New York. The purpose of my visit was to spend my holidays as well as attend two of its most important festivals – Punta Cana Kitefest 2013 & Punta Cana Carnival.
The Punta Cana Kitefest is one of the premier kite boarding events in the Dominican Republic. This year the Punta Cana Kitefest 2013 was held over the weekend of January 19 and January 20. The 2-day event was held at the stunningly-beautiful Playa Blanca Beach in the city. The event was sponsored by a number of strong commercial brands and local companies in association with the Punta Cana Kite Club. This was the 4th edition of Punta Cana Kitefest, which attracted over 50 competitors from 9 countries. This amazing event featured a number of kite-propelled disciplines like rail riding, freestyle and course racing before a crowd of hundreds of spectators.
The Punta Cana Kitefest was quite exciting indeed. On Day 1, the competitors were greeted by windy conditions with a full day of amazing kiteboarding action. Top competitors vied with each other to show off their best tricks. Day 2 of the competition was also quite eventful. Overall, the Punta Cana Kitefest offered a great spectacle and was much entertaining. I participated in the Punta Cana Kitefest for the first time, and it was such a fun event. The location was simply perfect for kite boarding and the atmosphere simply amazing. I will consider coming back to Punta Cana again next year to attend the kite festival.
Punta Cana Carnival is another must attend event. My 3 month long stay in Punta Cana offered me an opportunity to take part in the Punta Cana Carnival, which took place on March 9, 2013. This was the sixth edition of the annual Punta Cana Carnival. On March 8, the Carnival Grand Gala took place in which the visitors wore costumes, interacted with local performers and enjoyed local music. The carnival was held the following day. The carnival kicked off with a parade of international delegations from Saint Martin, Haiti, Curacao and Aruba, as well as Dominican Republic. More than 15 of the top carnival troupes donning colorful costumes and masks showcasing the cultural traditions and folklore of their respective countries participated in the Punta Cana Carnival.
