Costa Rica or the rich coast was always in my dreams and I was longing to visit this tiny Central American nation for many reasons. This is the place where the Mesoamerican culture met the South American Native’s culture. I have read a lot about the rich heritage produced by the blending of two great civilizations. This blend is still reflecting in every aspect of Costa Rica’s life. It is clearly visible in their culture, foods and also in the traditional dressing.
During last summer we have planned a family trip to this tiny nation. Well before purchasing the tickets I have taken the details of flights to that country and also done the necessary cheap flight deals also. After making all the necessary arrangements we went by one of the cheap flights to Costa Rica. The country, which has an agricultural based economy, is mostly depending on the cultivation of coffee and one of the major suppliers of coffee to Europe and US. The business relation with many European countries attracts many visitors to this country and almost all major airlines are operating flights to Costa Rica. Many European airlines such as Air France, British Airways etc are operating regular flights to this country.
Costa Rica has many places of importance to visit. Apart from the lively beaches, Tortuguero National Park, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reservoir etc are the main attractions here. However the Poas Volcano Crater is the place that attracts maximum number of visitors here. This country has been listed as the most visited Central American Country and recently many major airlines started offering cheap tickets to Costa Rica. Besides these parks and museums there are many venues for performing arts and we had an opportunity to see many traditional art forms there. Every art form has a blend of Mesoamerican and South American culture and this perfect blending makes it more attractive. The same is also seen in their traditional food.
Like in any other tourist destination, here also there are several shops and shopping centers besides wayside vendors catering to the shopping needs of the tourists. Most of the vendors were selling traditional handicraft items which have been purchased by the tourists as a souvenir of their trip. Besides these handicraft shops there were several people who are selling traditional food. There were some wayside restaurants where the food will be prepared in front of you on orders. This provides the visitors to have food afresh.
There are several cloth manufacturers also here in this country and they all have opened factory outlets for selling their products. Modern dresses, especially jeans and T shirts are available here for a cheaper price. The most attractive thing is that most of these modern dresses have a touch of tradition either in the design or in the way they have stitched. This clearly gives them an identity of its own. While returning after a fortnight’s trip, we had more luggage as we could not help purchasing the attracting items from this tiny nation. Fast, this country is becoming a favorite location for tourists who are interested in shopping too.

There was no particular reason for selecting Lisbon as our destination for a family trip. The only reason, if it can be consider as one, was that we have not seen the city so far. Once the destination is decided all other works have moved fast as usual. Searching for cheap flight tickets and bargaining for best airfares etc have gone smoothly and we reached the city in one of the cheap flights to Lisbon.
When we reached here the airport and the roads to our hotel were heavily crowded. That was the season for tourists and we have seen many foreigners wandering in the streets with travel guide in their hands. All the way to our hotel I was looking outside. It was a different experience to see such a variety of architecture in a city. Right from the ancient Roman architecture, Gothic, modern and post modern architecture were visible here. When we reached out hotel, we got surprised to see a modern interior in a building that has a typical roman architecture outside. It was an old building that has been converted to a hotel.
The first day we went to national museum which carries a lot of pieces that spread light in to the history of ancient culture and arts. At many places inside the museum, they have created an ancient atmosphere to suit the mood of the exhibits. We also visited the monument of Christ the King which is situated at the banks of Tagus River. Monsanto Forest Park and Parque Elduardo VII were the other two attractions. These parks have a lot of things to satisfy any type of the visitors and even the children were thrilled to enter here. As many airlines are offering cheap tickets to Lisbon, more and more visitors are coming here nowadays and nobody leave the city without visiting these two parks.
Lisbon is also a hot spot for many events and festivals. Lisbon Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, Lisbon international documentary film festival, Festival of oceans etc are a few to name which attracts millions of people all over the world. All major airlines will operate special flights to Lisbon during these festivals every year.
Alcantara, which was a suburb of the city once now attracts youth with its various pubs and discotheques. The life here is vibrant and just a visit to this area will certainly take you to your past. We have visited Alfama, another hilly district on the banks of the river. This is a hot destination for nature lovers and we have seen many people photographing the sceneries here.
We spend almost a fortnight here and the experience was really thrilling. Though there are many beautiful places and monuments to visit, the most attractive thing was the hospitality extended to the visitors. The warm welcome and the delicious dishes certainly make you an addict to this city. And that could be the reason why people are visiting this city more frequently.
I could get chances to visit many places in the world as a part of my work and I have visited many other places on personal trips. The special feature I have noted in Geneva is that the people here are more diplomatic than the people elsewhere. Whether it is in the airport or hotel or even in small retail counters, the people talk diplomatically and even a negative answer from them will not hurt our feelings. Being the head quarters of UN activities many diplomats are frequenting the city and this could be the reason for developing such a habit in the common man too. During my last visit to this city also I had several such experiences which underline this feature of the city.
As it was a personal trip I tried to get inexpensive flight tickets. After a long trial I could purchase cheap tickets to Geneva. Though it is a cheap ticket, airline provided almost all facilities that are available in a general flight. When I reached the airport it was heavily crowded. Nowadays there are many flights to Geneva and many visitors too that keep the airport busy always. Still the diplomacy, which has become a symbol of the city helps you a lot to come out of the airport without much worries and tensions. As soon as I reached my hotel I was a bit tired and decided to take rest for the day.
The very next day I went to Palexpo, a large convention center near the airport. Geneva Motor Show was going on there and I have wandered through the stalls of many automotive manufacturers who have exhibited their new models there. This show attracts a lot of automobile enthusiasts from all over the world and many airlines are operating cheap flights to Geneva during this season to meet the necessity of the people.
There are many historic and archeological sites to see here. Bronze Age settlement at Plonjon and the old city with Roman, Celtic and Medieval villages were the main attraction. The government has kept these sites in such a way that the atmosphere prevailing there will certainly take you to those ages. Here also the symbol of the city, diplomacy has been displayed. There are many small retail counters around these sites mainly aiming at the business from the tourists. The way they talk and the way they behave is really similar to those of world famous diplomats. Even though I have not intended to purchase anything; I have purchased some handicraft items from one of those shops, just because I got attracted to the way of behaving of the shop keeper.
After visiting various museums and also the some theatres I decided to end my tour. I was sure that I could not see much of this city. Still I had to call off my tour as the number of days allotted for me was very less. As cheap tickets to Geneva are available, I can come here anytime. Hence I stopped my tour for the time being and returned to my city.
I never knew that Johannesburg is a tourist place. It is the only major city in the world that is not developed near the banks of any river. It does not have a coastline too. I have not heard about any tourist destinations here. Hence when I was assigned to this city for an official tour I did not have much interest to go. Still I had to go as it was a part of my job. As usual I have done all the exercises like enquiring about airline prices and bargaining to get cheap airfares. At the end of these exercises I flew in one of the cheap flights to Johannesburg.
At the arrival itself I could feel the richness of the city. It has become one of the most developed business centers in the world and leading financial centre. The central business district with a large number of skyscrapers symbolizes the development of the city in the past few decades. Busy streets and shopping malls were filled with foreigners too. I really got wondered in seeing this much foreign tourists here in this city. Then I enquired about the places of importance and started visiting one by one whenever I get some time from my busy schedule.
Apartheid Museum and Hector Peterson Museum were the two main attractions there which display the history and culture of South Africa. However the most unforgettable incident was to be inside the Mandela Museum. It was the house of the great leader Nelson Mandela who spent almost three decades in loneliness in a prison fighting the apartheid policies. The post apartheid period of South Africa has one more thing to get boast. Their leader, unlike many world leaders did not stick to the power which he earned through his sacrifices and hard work. After completion of a period as president of the nation, he left active politics and living a simple life enjoying his private moments.
Gold Reef City, a theme park is another attraction for visitors. The day when I went there, I met a number of people from my city. They had come there to enjoy the under the mine experiences. The journey to the inner parts of the mines was an unforgettable experience which I think can be experienced only in Johannesburg.
The city is well connected with the rest of the world with a large number of flights to Johannesburg. Hence, coming to this city of gold and diamonds is not a difficult thing. After the introduction of cheap tickets to Johannesburg, the number of visitors has increased too.
There are many buildings in the city that stands as architectural wonders. Sandton City, The Southern Life Center, 11 Diagonal Street, Carlton Centre etc are a few to name. There is an observatory on the top of the Carlton Centre. A view of the central business district from this observatory will clearly tell you how much the city has developed in the recent past.
Anyway this trip has changed my prejudices about Johannesburg. Whenever somebody asks me next time about a tourist destination, I certainly will recommend this city.
The island situated in the Straits of Florida was not well known to me till one of friends told me about it. It has been littered with the bones of natives and that is the reason it derived the name bone Island. However officially it is known as Key West and after hearing from my friend I decided to make a trip to this tiny island.
Before fixing my plans I started enquiring about the island and I came to know that it is one of the hot destinations for tourists. Even people from US are visiting this tiny island more frequently and there are many cheap domestic flights to this city from other parts of US. The low fares offered by them and the entertainments and the typical Cuban foods available there attract many people to this tiny island. After making all necessary arrangements I flew in one of the cheap flights to Key West.
The first day I spent at Fort Zachary Taylor. It has witnessed many actions and was the place for making many strategies during the civil war. It still houses many cannons of that period. Apart from the historical importance the view of the sea from the top of this fort is really eye catching. Tourists are coming here to enjoy that scenery. There are lots of places for the visitors to sit and take rest. There I have seen some groups of tourists sitting on the lawn that extends to the beach engaging in some kind of funny games.
My next destination was Earnest Hemingway house. It is a historic fact that Hemingway wrote his famous novel “Farewell to Arms” while he was staying here in this city. At that time he came here for taking delivery of a ford car that has been booked by his uncle. As there was some delay in getting the delivery he spent a few days in a room above the showroom. He wrote the novel at that time. Later he returned to this island, purchased land and constructed a house here. The house has been kept like a museum now. The main attraction there was the presence of about 50 polydactyl cats.
The port of Key West is also a busy center as it has been preferred by many cruise vessels. A large number of visitors are coming here in cruise vessels too apart from the visitors those come by different flights to Key West. There are many small retail shops in almost every street that mainly cater to the needs of the tourists. Tourism has become one of the main sources of income for this city and its denizens.
When various bars and night clubs provide entertainment to many tourists, there are many venues for performing arts too. In total, the island has everything to offer to a tourist and with the introduction of the cheap tickets to Key West, the numbers of visitors are increased.
Santo Domingo, the capital of Dominican Republic was one of the earliest colonies established by Europeans in Americas. The city has developed constantly along the shores of the Ozama River. The busiest Santo Domingo port is also situated in its banks. With its stable economy and peaceful atmosphere it attracts many international companies and many global players have regional offices in this city. With a good numbers of flights to Santo Domingo, it is well connected with the rest of the world.
When we planned to start our operations in this region there was no other choice to make our regional headquarter than Santo Domingo. After a long search for cheap planes I purchased cheap tickets to Santo Domingo and reached here.
There are many highly developed areas in the city like Naco, Bella Vista etc. These areas house many modern buildings and houses. These areas are comparatively costlier but an address in this area is a status symbol. Hence we prefer to have our office in one of these locations and started trying to get a space for that.
During my days there, I got enough time to visit many places too. There are many historic places and structures in this city. Most of these structures are located in the Zona colonial district and this entire district has been announced as a heritage site by UNESCO. Cathedral Santa Maria La Menor is the most important one among those structures. This is the first cathedral built in Americas. Along with these historic sites I could visit many museums also. The busy commercial area Malecon also attracts a lot of tourists. There are many hotels and shopping malls in this area and all these business centers are thriving on the business given by the tourists. I have seen many travel agencies also in this area. The ticket, airline companies are providing through these agents are being purchased by tourists for domestic travel purpose. The city is well connected with rest of the Americas with large number of flights.
The city houses a number of parks too. These parks are being used as places for recreation and almost all parks will get crowded by evenings. People from different parts of the city will be there. There are many toys for children to play around and the green lawns and the cool breeze under huge trees will give the elders the peace of mind they need the most. I have seen many tourists also among the crowd in various parks. After the introduction of cheap flights to Santo Domingo, the number of visitors has increased in the past one decade.
Thus the city is always crowded with businessmen and tourists from all over the world. The traditional mouth watering cuisines of the land attract more people to this city. The crowd will be more on festival seasons like Christmas and New Year. The mixture of the traditional Caribbean and the modern North American culture is the specialty of the region and many art forms I have seen there were the reflection of this blended culture.
